The paper focuses on the content and evolution of the concept of Rum in major Persian epic texts from the eleventh through the beginning of the thirteenth century. The author reconstructs the place of the Realm of Rum in Persian heroic epics and its role in the development of the Iranian world proper. An attempt will be made to deconstruct different chronological and conceptual layers of the image of Rum.
