Ein Vortrag von Prof. Dr. Georgios Delegiannakis (Nikosia) / A lecture by Prof. Dr Georgios Delegiannakis (Nikosia)
The lecture re-examines a group of mosaic pavements belonging to a public building at Thebes, Boeotia (6th century), known since 1965 and much studied since then. The interpretation of the monument, its decoration and the accompanying inscriptions remain controversial. My new interpretation sees in this monument the reception hall of a bishop's palace and in the whole composition (iconography and verse inscriptions) a touch of humour.
